A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy early Wednesday morning. The death toll is at 159, but is expected to rise as rescuers continue to dig through the debris. Entire towns were turned to rubble as many of the structures in the affected areas were made of unenforced brick or concrete.

The same day, a 6.8 earthquake struck Myanmar. The region anticipates large scale earthquakes, and thus faced less damage. Reports estimate that four people have died and many temples, pagodas, and monasteries were damaged. Tremors were felt as far away as Thailand and India.
