On Sunday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas, Detective Benjamin Marconi was shot and killed during a traffic stop. The suspect walked up to Marconi’s vehicle as he was writing a ticket for a different driver, and assassinated the police officer. The suspect then fled, and has yet to be apprehended.
Police were seemingly targeted throughout Sunday evening, as an officer in St. Louis was shot in similar fashion. That officer is expected to live, and the suspect was later killed by police. Another officer was shot in Florida as well as Missouri; both are expected to live.
These seemingly random shootings comes in the same month that two police officers were shot and killed in Des Moines, Iowa, and in a year when ambush killings of police officers are one the rise.
