$167 million will be cut from domestic Health and Human Service programs (including Medicare, Medicaid, NIH, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention) to pay for the refugee children that have been illegally brought over the border in recent months. This budget “borrowing” will cover only one month of care for the nearly 255 young illegal immigrants in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (yes, one month of care for almost $200 million). The HHS Department is asking for the Office of Refugee Resettlement to be given an extra $2 billion in next year’s budget to continue providing food, shelter, education, healthcare, and recreation for these minors.
