The death toll has reached 12 as 48 people remain injured after an individual drove a tractor trailer through a crowded Christmas market in central Berlin on Monday. Police found the body of a Polish man inside the vehicle, and another man, suspected to be connected to the attack, was apprehended near the scene. German police are treating the incident as an act of terrorism, similar to the attack on Bastille Day revelers in Nice, France earlier this year.
Separately, the Russian Ambassador to Turkey was assassinated in plain view at an art
gallery in Ankara. The shooter shouted “Do not forget Aleppo!” before he was shot by authorities. Both countries have vowed not to let the incident sour their increasingly friendly relationship. Russia has been a close ally of the Assad government in Syria and has helped the dictator brutally regain control of Aleppo as well as much of the country.
